Baby Food

I decided a couple months ago that I was going to make all of Lila's baby food. I think I've said this before, but we were planning on holding off on fruits and veggies for another two months, but the doctor wants us to go ahead and start feeding her more since she is small and because she seems to like the few times she's had cereal.

I went grocery shopping today and got lots of fresh veggies, came home, put Lila down for a nap, and got started. They first thing I'll tell you is this is a lot of work. I spent several hours doing this today, but this is what I have finished.

avocado
yams
peas
zucchini
squash
carrots
bananas
plums

I found a great website that I am getting all my recipes and instruction from.

Wholesome Baby Food
.

For the most part I'm just steaming and pureeing everything and then freezing it in ice cube trays. Once it's frozen I transfer the cubes to zip lock freezer bags and label them. Then, whenever I want to feed her I just pull out a cube or two and let them defrost.

I'm so excited about it (which is weird b/c I totally hate to cook or do any kind of kitchen stuff). Well, I don't hate it, I just don't enjoy it. What I do enjoy though, is knowing my sweet Liley has fresh and healthy foods that I made for her.

p.s. I have pictures of my disaster of a kitchen and of all my cool food, but I can't find my cord to upload my pictures. I'll post them later when I find it.

4 Months Old

We took Lila to the doctor today and even though I was prepared for her to be "small" I totally guessed wrong as to how small. I was thinking right around 13 pounds. Not quite!!

Lila Cate -- 4 months

24.5 inches -- 59th %
15.5 inch head -- 10th%
11 lbs 13 ozs -- 15th%

Each kid I have is smaller than the last. I think it's pretty funny. Last night Sunny and I got out her scrapbook to see how big she was (remember, she was pretty small too) and I thought I'd post them to compare.

Sunny Mae -- 4 months

25.5 -- 97th%
40.5 cm -- 50th%
13 lbs 1 oz -- 50th%

I can't find Jax's stats, but he was the biggest of the three. I think he was like 14 1/2 pounds or somewhere around there ( which is funny since he was the earliest of all and had heart surgery).

The funny thing is that everywhere we go strangers come up and ask how old Lila is and if she was a preemie. At first I was kind of offended, but then one day it happened at Macys' and I finally asked the lady why was she asking. She said b/c she saw Lila sitting up and looking around and thought it was amazing that a baby so young was doing all those things. She thought she was a newborn when she was actually 3 months at the time. After that I decided I don't care what people say anymore. I actually like that Lila is so small. She has a ton of 0-3 month clothes that we were given and she still fits in them great and probably will all summer. Other than that, her appointment went great. The doctor says she is a "very healthy little peanut". Good to know.

Oh yeah, she is getting the beginning of eczema. Aunt Cathy, since you're the expert on that, I'll have to find out what kind of lotion you think would be the best.

Better Late Then Never

Can you see the toothpick? All the other pictures I took you couldn't see it for some strange reason.

Looks pretty big to me.

The whole "toothpick incident" happened 7 months ago. In a nutshell, Jax stepped on something and said his foot was hurting bad. We looked at it and saw nothing, so we put some ice on it and told him to go to sleep. He was up randomly throughout the night screaming in pain. The next day he wouldn't put any weight on his foot and I had to keep him home from preschool b/c he couldn't walk. The day after that I called the doctor and took him in. I have to admit I was feeling pretty silly about the whole situation and my son hopping next to me minus a shoe and sock.

The doctor looked at it and said he didn't see anything either and that it was probably just sore. He prescribed some antibiotic cream and said if it wasn't better in a couple days to call him. Sure enough, a couple days later he was still NOT walking on it. Throughout all this time he was saying that it hurt bad, but it wasn't that big a deal, except for the no walking part. He is such a tough kid. So, we call the doctor and we take Jax to American Fork Hospital for an ultrasound of his foot. The tech thought she saw something, but she wasn't sure. Next we headed for the x-ray machine. He had to get several from different angles and I couldn't be there with him b/c I was pregnant. He toughed it out though.

After waiting in the room for a while, we were summoned to the head radiologist office to meet with him and take a phone all with our pediatrician. The consensus was that they weren't sure if there was something there or not. Great. Just what I wanted to hear. The options were to wait and see or do an exploratory surgery. At this point I said surgery. I KNEW that something was in there b/c Jax is not a baby and he was hurting. After meeting with the orthopedic surgeon we decided to to the surgery with just a numbing shot in the office b/c of Jax's heart problems. We didn't want to risk putting him to sleep. They usually don't allow this for 4 year olds b/c they can't hold still and freak out, but after meeting Jax the doctor thought he could handle it.

The day of the surgery came (I think like 2 weeks after this had all started --poor Jax) and he had his foot lifted up on the table while he laid his head in my lap. They brought out the biggest needle I've ever seen (seriously) and stuck it all the way through his foot from the top to bottom. After he was numb it was sliced open and the doctor started digging around. I was started to get worried that all this was for nothing b/c it seemed like he couldn't find anything. Sure enough, the doctor turned to me and asked if I was sure there was something in there. DUH, if I knew we wouldn't be doing "exploratory" surgery. Jax spoke up and said, "I think it might be a toothpick." I asked if he was sure and he said no, but it could be. The doctor decided to look around his foot one more time and all of a sudden he pulled out the huge piece of toothpick. It is actually about half of a toothpick. Jax was so happy. We couldn't believe that something so big was in there all along and nobody had been able to tell and the doctor had almost put his foot back together with it still in.

He got his foot stitched up and wrapped in blue bandages and hobbled out to the car. We were all so relieved for the ordeal to be over. Jax is super proud of his toughness and I have been promising to post this ever since it happened. Well, here it is.

Rock Star

Okay, so eating it was half the fun :)

What you lookin' at?

Love the string of drool from her chin.

More drool, a common occurrence in our house.

I've had enough

Lila got her Rock Star outfit today and it is so cute. I put in on her and she promptly threw up all over the onesie, but that's the good thing about black, you totally can't tell. She wasn't in a picture taking mood, so no smiles. I think it makes her look tougher. (Or maybe Aunt Jess has been working with her on her ANTM poses).

Thanks Uncle B.J.

Thanks Aunt Jess (and Uncle Joshy)

Aunt Jess took Sunny on a shopping spree at the Gap the other day. Sunny was so excited and has been wearing her new outfits since then. She looks so stylish (as does her Aunt Jess). So, thanks Jess and here are some cute pictures.

What a sweetheart.

Sunny asked if she could wear this to bed. I told her yes and she said. I'm adorable you know!! I asked her who told her that and she said, "My Daddy"!

A rare picture of Jax without some kind of weird face or ninja pose.

Notice Jax's new hairdo. He wants it to be longer so it will look more like Uncle B.J.'s.

They sure do love each other (most of the time)

Daddy's Little Princess

First of all, I don't know why every time I start to type it is linking to a picture. If anyone knows how to fix it, feel free to let me know. Anyhow, Lila's shirt said Daddy's Little Princess or Sweetheart or something like that, and it got me to thinking about what a great dad Ryan is.

Every morning Lila wakes up at 6. She's not up to stay, just to eat and talk a little, and go back to sleep until 10. Well, I hate getting up, even though she's been asleep since 7 the night before, so Ryan does it. Seriously, every morning. I think it's pretty cool that even with three kids I don't get up before 9. He is so good about it, and Lila loves spending that time with her Daddy.

One of Lila's favorite things to do is "talk" with her Dad. She talks more to him than she does to anyone else (which makes me a little jealous :) I love to see her have that special bond with him.

Doesn't she look CRAZY in this picture. I was tickling her to get her to smile and she was going nuts. She loves to be tickled.

July 4, 2008

After the balloons, we went to a BBQ at Mom's with Uncle Josh and Aunt Jess. We had ribs and homemade ice cream. After we went home, Ryan set off a few fireworks for the kids. Just like last year, Sunny was not impressed. Maybe next year???

Finally, we capped off the night with a little Wii with Josh and Jess. Jackson taught them how to play Mario Party 8 and several other games. He is quite the pro. We really had a great day today.
