My new calling in our ward is Activity Days leader. I'm really excited about it. A year ago I was in the Primary presidency and I absolutely loved it. When I was pregnant with Lila I was called to be a visiting teacher supervisor. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it just wasn't very fun. Anyway, I'm so excited to be back working with kids. We have the most awesome ward, and I love all the children so much. Each one of them is so special and fun to be around.
So, on to the point of this post. I would like some ideas about how or what to do with the girls (9 year olds). I've never done this before, and activity days didn't exist when I was a kid.

My first activity is Thursday and is about building a "web" of friends. I'm going to read them Charlotte's Web and talk about how at first Wilbur didn't like Charlotte, but she eventually became his best friend, etc. I'm going to relate it to the beginning of school and how there may be people that we don't think we will like, but we need to get to know everyone b/c we never know how things are going to turn out, and who might end up being our dearest friend. Then I'm going to have each girl write their name on a spider web and we will pass them around in a circle. Each person write something nice about the person whose paper they have (did I explain that well? Clear as mud probably). The point being to show the girls the wonderful "web" of friendship and support they have around them already.
We're going to finish it up by decorating cupcakes to look like spiders (a la Charlotte's Web).

I'm really hoping it turns out good. I think it will.
Please leave me some comments with your ideas and experience for future activities. I know there are lots of yall out there who are way more creative than me, and I would love to hear what you have done, or what you think would work well.
