Reece's Rainbows

Link

This is a something that is near and dear to my heart, which for some reason makes it very hard to blog about. A little over a year ago I learned about Reece's Rainbows and began following several blogs that different families made that chronicled their foreign adoptions of children with Down Syndrome through Reece's Rainbows.

There is so much I want to explain about these poor little children who live in orphanages with slim chances of ever being part of a family. I think the best way to understand it is to read some of the blogs that were started by different families while going through the adoption process.

You may have to go back a little to find most of the stories of their adoptions, but I promise it will be worth your time.

Over the last year, Ryan and I have discussed this organization and these children over and over and we have both felt it impressed upon us that one day we will adopt one of these children.

The biggest obstacle for people who do want to adopt one (or more) of these children is money. It can cost between 25 and 30 thousand for one adoption. Each year, Reece's Rainbows has their Angel Tree fundraiser. The money that is donated to each child goes to a fund for them that is able to be used towards their adoption.

Ryan and I decided that instead of buying our kids presents this year, we would donate money to a child waiting to be adopted. I thought the kids would be okay with the idea, and they were. They were actually thrilled to be part of it and had a very tough time choosing which child we would donate to.

We finally decided to donate to Liliana. Her story can be found on the first blog I linked...they call her Lyla. She is a special little girl and her story is so touching that our family really wanted to help her out.

After we donated to Lyla, we received an email from my parents saying that instead of buying them presents this Christmas, they would like us to do something for something else this year. It could be anything. We decided to pick another child to help. Jackson chose Jonas because he is Griffin's age and looks like Griffin. It breaks my heart to think of him sitting alone in a crib day after day.

When you donate to a child, you will receive an ornament with the child's picture on it. We got our two in the mail today. As I hung them on our tree with my Lila, I was so sad for those children, but grateful to be able to teach my children. Grateful that my children care as much about these orphans as I do, and grateful that they are willing to take action to help others.

Please, if you can, consider donating to one or more of these children this Christmas season. They truly are, "The the least of these." If you can't donate, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

12 Weeks Old

My sweet blue-eyed babe is already 12 weeks old. He is still the best baby ever. I can't believe how fast he is changing and how fun he is. Just in the past week or so, he has finally "woken up" and is not spending 22 hours a day sleeping.

He is also growing so big. He is already wearing mostly 6-9 month clothes. I packed up all his newborn and 0-3 month stuff a few weeks ago. Seriously, where did the time go. It seems like I was pregnant forever, but then this first few months of Cam's life have passed by in the blink of an eye.

Last week we decorated for Christmas. Pretty sure Cam had no idea what was going on, but hey, he was there.

Cam totally loves laying with Griffin. Not!

He does love playing with his biggest brother.

Sweet, sweet, sweet. Cameron looks so much like his Daddy.

Enjoy the Journey

This picture totally sums up life with kids. If you can't read it, it says, "Enjoy the Journey." I walked in the front room the other day and noticed it was upside down. I love the little reminders all over my house that tell me I am completely outnumber by kids.

Before I had kids (well, actually just until this year) I swore my kids would never write on my walls. I guess the joke is on me. Technically, they have never written on anything upstairs though. These are all in the unfinished basement and credit for the work goes to Sunny and Lila.

Can you see how nasty the side of the door is. Lots of little sticky hands opening and closing it. (The dirt has since lost its battle with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser...those things are a life saver).

This was some sort of growth chart Sunny made. She was pretty proud of it.

I am so grateful that Ryan and I have been able to fill up our home with kids. They bring lots of messes, and lots of love.

I am absolutely "Enjoying the Journey!"

St. George Part 3

St. George Part 2

St. George Part 1

Cute little G. I think we have a picture from last year that looks almost identical. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Back in October, we went on a little vacation to St. George. It was wonderful. What was not wonderful, was that I forgot my camera. Mom made me a cd of her pictures, but it's not working right, so all I have are a few pictures from Snow Canyon. Hopefully I'll get the rest soon because I know there are some super cute ones.

Bear was the hero of the sand dunes. He took the kids on a little hike, and they found lots of cool rocks. Everything is more fun when Bear is around.

I'm pretty sure Cam spent 95% of our trip in the Moby wrap. I guess that's okay because he was only 6 weeks old. He was so good. We hardly noticed he was there.

I love the shadows. It was such a beautiful day.

We had the whole place to ourselves for about an hour. The kids were thrilled.

This was the place for Griffin. He could run, jump, yell, scream, and just generally act like a fool. He loved it.
