Swimming Lessons 7/21 -- 7/25

First of all, as always, Catey-Belle was adorable at swimming lessons.

Now for the real story. The kids have been signed up for swimming lessons since March. The lady who substitutes for Jax's preschool class has this huge pool and apparently is super popular for doing swimming lessons around here. I was excited that the kids were going to be able to take lessons from her b/c she is such a great teacher. It turns out that my kids and the three others in their class were taught by her son Josh, who was equally as wonderful.

On Monday we showed up for lessons and both kids headed down to the pool. About 2 minutes later I notice Sunny is completely freaking out. She's not scared of swimming or water so we weren't sure what was going on, but she continued to cry for the rest of the hour. After class we talked with the teacher and decided that Sunny would sit out Tuesday and watch. We didn't want her to upset the rest of the kids, or to be traumatized by the situation. So, she sat out Tues and most of Wed. By Thursday she was able to put her feet in and sit through the lesson without getting in the water. We were so proud of her, it was a huge accomplishment.

Today she resumed her position on the side of the pool for most of the time, but then somehow, her teacher Josh got her in the water -- AND SHE DIDN'T CRY!! She was so proud of herself. She also learned how to jump in and did it several times. We are so proud of how brave she is. She conquered such a big fear today. What a great little girl.

Jax had a completely different experience with the lessons. He was awesome. He loves the water and looked like a little fish (well, maybe a spastic fish, hahaha). He passed off everything he needed to and graduated to level 2. Way to go Jax!! He can't wait to go back next year. In fact, he is going to go for two weeks next year so he can pass off levels two and three.

That's him under the water swimming.

Getting up her courage to jump. All week she wanted to use that mermaid board.

And she did it!!! Mr. Josh was so patient with her. I'm glad he was her teacher.

Sunny got high fives from Mr. Josh and from lots of the other parents. Everyone at the pool was so proud of her today. They have all seen how hard she struggled with her fear and were glad to see her overcome it.
